FLOSS

FLOSS means Free/Libre Open Source Software.

It is a rather cumbersome name cooked up to represent two of the threads in a revolutionary software movement: "software should be free (as in freedom)" and "software should be open — readable, changeable, etc)".

As you may gather if you look at other pages on this website, we have long been migrating software to UNIX®. With the advent of the FLOSS movement, Linux® and, to a lesser extent, other UNIX-like operating systems, have become the most important targets.

There is plenty of literature showing why this is a good idea; here we'll just show how it fits in with our work.
